The Town of Aberdeen, a growing community located adjacent to Pinehurst and Southern Pines is seeking dedicated candidates to fill a full-time Code Enforcement Officer position. Aberdeen and the surrounding Sandhills region of North Carolina offer an appealing quality of life that provides something for everyone. This position will require above average abilities to build interpersonal relationships, exhibit excellent oral and written communications, and a good working knowledge of the construction industry. This position is responsible for the review, inspection and enforcement of all codes and ordinances relating to residential and commercial construction and enforcement of the general Town Code. Examples of work performed may include plan review, conducting field inspections, site visits, interaction and communication with contractors, developers, the public and property owners, completion and filing of reports, coordination with other Town departments and the Department of Insurance as necessary, and the initiation of compliance and enforcement actions. Position will frequently conduct field inspections of properties and vehicles within Town limits and report possible violations of Town ordinances such as overgrown grass, junk and abandoned vehicles, and right-of-way obstructions.

Requirements: Knowledge with building and related codes, laws and ordinances; ability to plan, direct and coordinate the various phases of inspection services; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; firmness and tact in enforcing building codes, zoning codes and nuisances; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, contractors, developers, the general public, and co-workers.

Must possess a valid NC driver’s license. Building inspection Level I certificates and Certified Zoning Officer (CZO) certification are preferred, but not required. Must have the ability to obtain Building Inspection Level I certificates and CZO certificate within three years. The successful applicant must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, physical, and credit check.

Hiring range: $34,985 - $40,000 depending on qualifications, with excellent benefits package including 5% 401-k contribution, Local Government Employees Retirement System membership, paid medical, dental and life insurance, 12 paid holidays + paid birthday day off, vacation and sick leave, annual longevity payment, and opportunity for career advancement.
