Firefighter of the Month
Firefighter question and
answer forum

Occasionally you may notice
firefighters flowing water from hydrants this is
a very important job they must perform
Reasons for testing:
Determination of how much water is
available for fire protection
Condition of the water distribution system and means of determining needed
improvements
Detection of closed valves in the water system,
and general maintenance of hydrants
Familiarize the firefighters with the type of
water availability in order to be better
prepared for a fire
How
will this affect me?
You may
notice a discoloration in your water from the
sediments and iron stirred up by the flushing,
although this may look alarming your water is
still safe to use and drink. Running your
cold water for several minutes till it runs
clear will generally alleviate this problem.
Avoid doing laundry or running the dishwasher
until the water is clear again. This will
alleviate any problems of clothes becoming
discolored from the sediments in the water, or
having to re-run the dishwasher.
If you
have any questions you may call the Fire
Department at 944-7888.
