Employment Opportunities

OPEN POSITIONS

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
The Town of Aberdeen Department of Fire and Rescue is currently seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Firefighter/EMT. Interested applicants shall possess:  N.C. certification as a Firefighter I & II or ability to obtain within twelve months of employment; Ability to obtain a N. C. certification as a EMT within twelve months of employment;  Applicant must be certified in one of the above prior to employment; Valid N.C. driver’s license;  Ability to obtain a N.C. Class B driver’s license within twelve months of employment;  High school graduate or GED required.  The position will require the ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and the public. The successful applicant will be assigned to work a rotating shift that will entail day and night work; the successful applicant will work in a hazardous environment with the potential of bodily injury. ASSISTANT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
Highly professional and administrative position which involves engineering work of substantial difficulty;  requires thorough familiarity with engineering and surveying principles.  Responsible for assisting Public Works Director in supervisory, administrative and professional engineering work activities of Public Works Department; performs engineering design work related to streets, water, sewer, storm drains, etc.;  works w/ consulting engineering firms regarding town projects including conducting research and preparing proposals;  reviews proposed development plans for compliance with town ordinances and works with developers regarding such plans;  assists in preparing and review of budgets to assure compliance with expenditures;  consults with and acts as liaison to Public Works Department's div. heads in performance of routine or special activities, including personnel matters;  demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;  ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state & local agencies, public utilities, businesses, town officials, employees and general public.  B.S. in civil engineering from accredited college/university;  possession of license to practice as a registered P.E. in NC or engineering in-training status with ability to acquire P.E. certification within 6 months;  ability to use PC-based CADD system.  Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.  Excellent benefits package.  Position will begin employment on July 7, 2008.  Salary range:  $45,429 - $68,143.
